If your relationship with pornography has become compulsive, if it feels less like a choice and more like a need, you're not alone, and there is a way forward that doesn't involve shame, willpower or white-knuckling your way through.

Beyond the Shame Cycle

Most approaches to porn recovery start with the message that porn is bad and you should stop. This creates a shame cycle: use → shame → resolve to stop → tension builds → use → more shame. Willpower alone rarely breaks this cycle, because it doesn't address what's driving the behaviour.

Somatic sex education takes a different approach. Rather than focusing on what you're trying to stop, we focus on what you're trying to move towards: authentic, embodied, connected sexuality.

If any of this resonates, you don't have to navigate it alone. Whenever you feel ready, I offer a free, unhurried conversation: no pressure, just a space to talk about where you are. Book a free discovery call →

Understanding Compulsive Use

Compulsive porn use is rarely about sex. More often, it's serving one or more of these functions:

RegulationPorn activates the dopamine system quickly and reliably. If you don't have other ways to manage stress, anxiety, loneliness or boredom, your nervous system learns to use porn as a regulator.

NumbingPorn can help you check out from difficult emotions or overwhelming experiences.

Connection substituteIf real intimacy feels risky, scary or unavailable, porn offers a simulation of connection without the vulnerability.

Arousal templateOver time, your arousal system adapts to the specific stimulation porn provides, high novelty, high visual intensity, no relational complexity. Real-life intimacy can then feel insufficient by comparison.

A Somatic Approach

Nervous System Awareness

Learning to recognise your body's states, when you're activated, when you're shut down, when you're in a window of genuine choice. Most compulsive use happens on autopilot; awareness creates a gap where choice can exist.

Building Capacity for Sensation

Porn trains the arousal system to need intense, rapid, visual stimulation. Somatic practices rebuild your capacity for subtle sensation, the kind that real intimacy offers.

Emotional Regulation

Developing body-based tools for managing the states that currently drive you to porn, stress, loneliness, anxiety, restlessness.

Embodied Sexuality

Reconnecting with your own body as a source of pleasure and aliveness, rather than relying on external images.

No Shame, No Judgement

This work is not about making you feel bad about porn use. Shame doesn't create change, it fuels the cycle. What creates change is understanding, embodied awareness, and gradually building a sexuality that feels more alive and more yours.

You don't need to have "hit rock bottom" to seek support. If you're noticing that porn use is affecting your relationships, your self-esteem, or your capacity for real intimacy, that's reason enough.
