If sex has disappeared from your relationship, you're not alone. Research suggests that around 15-20% of couples are in sexless or near-sexless relationships, and the real number is likely higher, because many people don't talk about it.

A "dead bedroom" doesn't mean a dead relationship. It often means something important needs attention, something that words alone haven't been able to reach.

Why Does Sex Disappear?

There is rarely a single cause. More often, it's a gradual accumulation:

Life changesChildren, work stress, illness, menopause, caring responsibilities. When your nervous system is in survival mode, desire is the first thing to go.

Unspoken resentmentSmall hurts that were never addressed build walls between partners. The body registers these walls even when the mind tries to push past them.

Touch deficitWhen all touch leads to an expectation of sex, one or both partners may withdraw from touch altogether.

Mismatched desire patternsOne partner has spontaneous desire (wanting sex "out of nowhere"), while the other has responsive desire (needing connection, safety and arousal to build first). Neither pattern is wrong, but the mismatch creates a painful cycle.

Performance pressureAnxiety about "performing" shuts down the very relaxation that arousal needs.

Trauma responsesPast experiences of sexual harm, boundary violation, or shame can create a body that says "no" regardless of what the mind wants.

Medical factorsHormonal changes, medication side effects, chronic pain or illness all affect desire and arousal.

If any of this resonates, you don't have to navigate it alone. Whenever you feel ready, I offer a free, unhurried conversation: no pressure, just a space to talk about where you are. Book a free discovery call →

Why Talking Isn't Enough

Most couples in sexless relationships have already tried talking about it. They've had "the conversation", possibly many times. And yet nothing changes.

This is because the issue is rarely a lack of understanding. It's a body that has learned to shut down, a nervous system stuck in protection mode, a pattern of disconnection that lives in the muscles and the breath, not just the thoughts.

This is where somatic work, working directly with the body, can reach what conversation cannot.

How Somatic Couples Work Helps

Rebuild Safe Touch

Before sex can return, touch needs to feel safe again. We practise forms of touch that have no agenda, touch that exists simply for connection and pleasure, with no expectation of where it leads.

Understand Each Other's Nervous Systems

You'll learn to read the signals of your own and your partner's nervous system. The aim is that a stress response becomes easier to spot in each other, and that you have something to do about it.

Explore Desire Without Pressure

We use structured exercises that allow desire to emerge naturally, without the pressure of "this has to lead to sex." Many couples find that removing the pressure is exactly what allows desire to return.

Communicate Through the Body

Sometimes the most important conversations happen without words. You'll learn to use breath, eye contact, movement and touch to communicate presence, desire and love.

What to Expect

Discovery call (60 minutes): We meet and talk about what's happening in your relationship. Both partners attend. This is free and there is no obligation.

Individual sessions: Sometimes one or both partners benefit from some individual sessions first.

Couples sessions: Working together in the room, you'll practise new ways of being with each other's bodies. Sessions are clothed, boundaried and guided at every step.

Home practices: Between sessions, you'll have specific practices to do together at home.

This Is Not About "Fixing" Anyone

A sexless marriage doesn't mean someone is broken. It means the system, the relationship, the circumstances, the nervous systems, needs support. This work is about creating the conditions in which intimacy can naturally arise again.

It takes courage to seek help with this. If you're reading this page, you've already taken the first step.
