What is Somatic Sex Education?
Somatic sex education is a body-centred approach to learning about sexuality, pleasure, boundaries and intimacy. The word "somatic" comes from the Greek soma, meaning "body", and this work places the body at the centre of sexual learning and growth.
Most of us received our sex education through words: books, lectures, awkward conversations. But sexuality is fundamentally a bodily experience. Somatic sex education bridges this gap by working directly with the body, through breath, movement, touch, sensation and awareness.
The Body Knows
Your body holds wisdom that your mind may not have access to. Patterns of tension, numbness, pleasure and pain all carry information about your relationship with sexuality. Somatic sex education helps you listen to and learn from your body.
Consent is Central
Every somatic sex education session is built on a foundation of informed, enthusiastic, ongoing consent. You are always in charge of what happens to your body.
Pleasure is a Guide
In somatic sex education, pleasure is not the goal: it's a compass. Learning to notice, follow and expand your capacity for pleasurable sensation helps you understand what your body wants and needs.
Slow is Fast
This work moves at the pace of your nervous system, not your mind. What might seem slow (pausing, breathing, noticing) is actually the fastest route to lasting change.
What Happens in Sessions?
- Breath practices: Using breath to increase sensation, release tension and regulate your nervous system
- Body awareness exercises: Developing your ability to feel and name what's happening in your body
- Guided self-touch: Exploring your own body with curiosity and presence
- Practitioner-facilitated touch: Where appropriate and with clear consent
- Boundary practices: Exercises that help you feel, communicate and honour your limits
- Movement and expression: Using your body's natural impulses to release holding patterns
- Education: Understanding anatomy, the nervous system, arousal cycles and the science of pleasure
Who Benefits from Somatic Sex Education?
For those healing: If you're working through the effects of sexual trauma, shame, religious conditioning, or negative body image, somatic sex education offers a gentle, boundaried space to reconnect with your body on your own terms.
For those growing: If sex is "fine" but you sense there's more available (more sensation, more connection, more presence), this work helps you expand your capacity.
For those exploring: If you're questioning aspects of your sexuality, gender expression, desires or relationship style, somatic sex education provides a non-judgmental space for embodied exploration.
For couples: If you and your partner want deeper intimacy, better communication about sex, or help navigating desire differences, somatic sex education offers practical, body-based tools.

Yes. Somatic approaches can be very effective for low desire, difficulty with arousal or orgasm, pain during sex, erectile difficulties, premature ejaculation, and disconnection from the body. This complements medical treatment. It is not a replacement for medical care.
Anyone who wants to deepen their relationship with their body and sexuality. You don’t need a problem or dysfunction. Wanting to feel more alive, connected, and embodied is reason enough.
