If you have ever found yourself curious about tantric massage but hesitant to book one, you are in good company. Most people who come to me have spent weeks, sometimes years, wondering what actually happens in a session before they feel ready to ask. There is so much mystery around the word "tantric," and so much of what is written online is either vague and mystical or crude and misleading, that it can be hard to know what you are really saying yes to.

So let me take the mystery out of it. As a somatic sex educator, I offer this work in a calm, private, unhurried setting, and I believe you deserve to know exactly what to expect before you ever step through the door. This is an honest walk through what a tantric massage can genuinely be like: how it begins, what it can include, and why so many people describe it as unlike anything they have experienced before.

First, what tantric massage actually is

Tantric massage is not simply a massage with a sensual edge, and it is certainly not the thing the phrase has come to imply in some corners of the internet. At its heart, it is a practice of presence. It is an invitation to slow right down, to feel what is happening in your body moment by moment, and to receive touch without having to do anything, perform anything, or become anything.

In a conventional massage, the goal is often to work out tension so you can get on with your day. In tantric massage, there is no destination to arrive at. The whole point is to be here, in your body, exactly as you are. Touch becomes a way of listening to what your body wants, rather than a technique applied to it. For many people, particularly those who have spent a lifetime being efficient, capable and slightly disconnected from themselves, this is a profound and unfamiliar experience.

So much is shaped before we begin

A tantric massage does not start on the day. It starts in the free discovery call we have beforehand, where we talk together about what is drawing you to this work and what you are hoping to explore. Every person arrives with a different intention, and there is no right one. For someone it might be erotic exploration. For someone else it might be about heat and aliveness, or about something quieter and more spiritual, a sense of the sacred. For another it is simple curiosity, or a longing to feel at home in their body again. Your intention can be layered, and it can change.

This is why no two sessions look alike, and why I like to understand beforehand what you are moving towards. What we discuss then becomes a gentle map for the day: not a fixed script, but a shared sense of where you would like to go and how you would like it to feel.

If you are curious but a little nervous, that is completely normal, and you do not have to work it out on your own. Whenever you feel ready, I offer a free, unhurried conversation: no pressure, just a space to ask anything and see how it feels. Book a free discovery call →

How a session might begin

Because it is shaped around you, even the opening varies. We might begin seated together, with some soft eye gazing or gentle breath work to help you arrive. There might be a moment of heart-based connection, a body scan, or simply time to feel into the body and let your system settle before any massage begins. Some people need a while to land. That time is always there.

I work from a warm, private space in my home in North London (N11). It is not a clinical treatment room. It is a soft, welcoming lounge, gently lit, with a comfortable massage space, warm blankets and quiet, and water there if you would like it. If you are working with me online, we create that same unhurried privacy in your own space, and I guide you through practices you can do yourself. You will never be rushed. The pace is set by you and your body, not by me.

During the session: there is no single way it unfolds

This is the part people most want to understand, and the honest answer is that a tantric massage can take many forms. Some people want to lie back and simply receive, letting go completely. Others want it to be more interactive: to move, to breathe, to direct more of what happens, to be a participant rather than a passenger. Neither is more advanced than the other. I check in with you often throughout, sometimes in words and sometimes through touch, so the session stays yours from beginning to end.

The massage can involve the whole body, working with the understanding that no part of you is unacceptable or off limits by default. It may be soothing, it may be enlivening, and at times it may be so deeply relaxing that you drift into stillness. Your only job is to feel. You do not have to make anything happen, respond in a particular way, or reach any kind of outcome.

A word about Lingam and Yoni

A tantric massage may include the genitals, and it may not. This is always your choice, and it is one of the things we will have talked about beforehand. In this work you may hear the words Lingam and Yoni, the terms tantra uses, with reverence rather than clinical distance or crudeness, for the penis and the vulva. For some people, Lingam or Yoni massage is part of what they are exploring. For others it is not, at least not yet.

Many women, in particular, may not feel ready for Yoni massage, and that is completely honoured. There is no stage you are supposed to reach, nothing is ever assumed, and readiness is not something to push. Genital touch is only ever included when it is a clear yes for you, and we can move towards it slowly over time, or not at all. We only ever go where you want to go, at the pace your body sets.

Consent is alive throughout, not a form at the door

Because so much has been discussed beforehand, the day itself is not about working anything out under pressure. It is about staying with what is true for you now. What we agreed in the discovery call is a starting point, not a contract. You can change your mind about anything, at any moment, and you never have to explain why. If something invites more, we can follow it. If something is a no, we ease back without question.

This is not a formality. It is the living foundation of the whole session, because your nervous system can only truly soften when it knows, moment by moment, that it is safe and that you are in charge.

What it is not

Let me be direct, because clarity is a kindness here. Tantric massage as I offer it is not a transactional sexual service, and it is not a "happy ending" massage by another name, even when a session includes intimate or genital touch. The difference is everything. This is professional, boundaried, somatic bodywork and education, a space to reconnect with your own body, sensation and capacity for pleasure and presence, held safely and with consent throughout.

Arousal is welcome if it arises, and release is welcome if it comes naturally, but neither is ever the goal or something to perform. Nothing is owed and nothing is chased. For some people this work is about healing: recovering from disconnection, shame, trauma or years of feeling numb. For others it is about expansion: discovering there is far more available to them than they realised. Very often it is both.

Afterwards: coming back to stillness

When the massage itself draws to a close, we do not simply stop and send you back into the world. Time is always set aside to come back to stillness, to let your system settle, and to share anything that is present for you if you would like to, because tantric massage frequently stirs more than physical sensation. People are sometimes surprised by emotion: tears, laughter, relief, a wave of tenderness towards themselves. This is not something going wrong. It is often the body letting go of something it has held for a very long time.

Many people describe the hours and days afterwards as feeling more alive, more present, softer with themselves and others, and more at home in their own skin. That settling, integrating quality is one of the reasons this work stays with people long after the session ends.

Is it right for you?

Tantric massage can be a beautiful next step whether you are longing to reconnect with a body that has felt distant, recovering your sense of yourself after illness, loss or a long time away from touch, or simply curious about a deeper, slower way of experiencing pleasure and presence. It is offered inclusively, and you do not need any experience, any particular kind of body, or any idea of what you are doing. You only need a willingness to feel, and permission to go at your own pace.

If you would like to explore what this could look like for you, I offer dedicated sessions for women and for men, each shaped around what that experience most often asks for. You can read more about conscious tantric massage for women in London, or about tantric massage for men, and see which feels like a fit.
